I have been sewing for a very long time. I come from a line of seamstress’. However, my sewing has not ventured out too far from quilts or simple two sided projects. I don’t consider myself to be a “beginner”, however I am definitely not anywhere near what I would consider “advanced”. There area a lot of sewing techniques I have yet to try.
A few months ago, I expanded my cross stitch thread collection. My small tote bag could no longer accommodate all my cross stitch supplies. So I decided it was as good a time as any to attempt to make my own tote bag.
I had the Maker’s Tote pattern saved on Pinterest for some time, and I knew it was exactly what I needed.

I purchased my fabric and materials from [JoAnn Fabrics]. They did not have the zipper in the size the pattern listed for the side pocket, so I did adjust to make it work with a smaller zipper.
This bag was a number of firsts for me. First zippers, first snap, first time making handles, and first time working with foam interfacing. I did make mistakes, but overall am very proud of how it turned out.
The pattern contains two bag sizes, I made the larger. It ended up being perfect for all my cross stitch materials (for now).
I had fun stepping out of my comfort zone, and giving myself this challenge. I’m already planning what to step out and try next!
